Recommended maintenance intervals—regardless of what the owner’s manual claims.

Remember: marketing departments often influence those manuals to promote “low cost of ownership.” That doesn’t mean the factory intervals are ideal if you plan to keep your vehicle running strong for 300,000 miles.

Please keep a detailed log of your maintenance. At a minimum, save all invoices in an organized manner so you can easily reference past work.

The table below lists realistic, longevity-focused recommendations—along with the intervals I personally follow on my own vehicles.

Components Interval Notes
Brake Fluid 3–5 Years
Comprehensive Inspection 6 Months / Best to do at every oil change
Coolant 50k / 5 Years
Differential / Transfer Case 30k Use manufacturer’s fluid
Oil / Oil Filter 5k / 6 Months
Power Steering 50k–70k Miles
Spark Plugs 100k Miles / 10 Years Use manufacturer’s plugs
Transmission Fluid 60k / 6 Years Use manufacturer’s fluid
