Chrysler/Stellantis Cylinder Deactivation (MDS) Issues with Engine Codes

Chrysler introduced the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) in 2005 on the 5.7L HEMI V8. It later expanded to the 6.4L HEMI V8. MDS deactivates 4 cylinders under light load to improve fuel economy. Known issues include lifter roller failures, camshaft wear, and ticking noises. Manual transmission HEMI models do not use MDS.
